RE-DELEGATION OF EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION:

On November 30, 2008 the delegation of every Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion will expire.  The Office of Worship has developed a 30 minute, two-part televised presentation via DVD that is to be shown AND THIS IS A MANDATORY PRESENTATION IF YOU WISH TO CONTINUE IN THIS MINISTRY.
We are offering this presentation on three different dates and times IN THE PARISH LIFE CENTER, and they are

        Saturday, Sept. 6th, 9 a.m.
       Monday, Sept. 15th, at 9:15 a.m.
       Wednesday, Sept. 17th at 7:30 p.m.

These sessions should only last about one hour.  So please make your plans to attend one of these presentations.  Remember, IT IS MANDATORY TO ATTEND IF YOU WISH TO CONTINUE BEING AN EXTRAORDINARY MINISTER OF HOLY COMMUNION.
Note:  Please come a few minutes early to put your name on the sign-up sheet so we can know that you have attended this workshop.  There will be no early registration – the sign-up form with your name on it serves as your registration for these sessions.

LIFELINE SCREENING

As most of you know, we had a lady here this past weekend telling us about the  LifeLine Screening program.  They offer 3 painless ultrasound tests to screen for stroke and vascular disease.  They are to be here at Holy Spirit on Friday, October 17th, from 9 am to 4 pm.  Because registration has been so heavy for these tests, they have decided to increase the number of appointments for that day – from 105 to 150 – so if you still want to register, call the following number and they will assist you in setting up your appointment time. However, if that date is not convenient for you, they will also be here on Saturday, December 13th. which may be a  better time for some folks, especially those who work during the week.  We will have  more information about these tests in future Bulletins, but if you want to call now and schedule an appointment for either of these days, call either 800-643-6075 or 800-324-1851. If you need further information about this, call the Church Office  at 504-394-5492.  We  should have flyers to hand out regarding  LifeLine Screening tests soon.

REMINDER: The new schedules for Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors and Greeters are printed and are placed on one of the  vestibule tables, for your convenience.  If you participate in one of these ministries, please look for your new schedule this weekend before or after Mass.  And you may also find the new schedule on our web site on the link to “Ministries” there – www.holyspirit-no.org.

FATHER ROY will be away on Aug. 25th and 26th, Monday and Tuesday, of this coming week, and there will be no Mass on those two days, but we will have our Communion Service at 8:30 a.m.   Please come and pray with us.

FlowersThe beautiful flowers on the altar this weekend are given in loving memory of Hamilton Barre’ by the Barre’ family.

“Holy Water for your home”
Any time you want holy water you can bring a container and Father Roy will bless it for you.  Every Saturday morning the holy water in the Baptismal Font is changed and blessed.  As we enter the church it is a good reminder of our own entrance into God’s life by blessing ourselves with the holy water.  Just a reminder.

Access Pregnancy PhotoACCESS PREGNANCY AND REFERRAL CENTERS OF CATHOLIC CHARITIES APPEAL:
Gayle Gaubert  will be at all Masses next weekend, September 6th and 7th, representing Catholic Charities and their ministry of caring for unwed mothers. This ministry at any one time takes place out of three Centers caring for 140 mothers and their infants so that they will have a normal birth.  The Centers provide medical, psychological, social and spiritual counseling, and also medical procedures.  Gayle will be here next weekend to hand out the bottles, and the  “angle” which Gayle will recommend will be to put our donations in the baby bottle and return it the following  weekend so that the Centers will continue to be well funded.
So, we will welcome Mrs. Gaubert next weekend as she comes to tell us about the special services that ACCESS PREGNANCY provides.

NOTE:  We continue to collect the small, used printer cartridges from your computer printers, if you would like to bring them to the Church office.  And we thank you.

HUNGER-BOWL SUNDAY: In our parish, the first Sunday of the month has traditionally been designated as “Hunger Bowl Sunday”, when we ask that you bring any type of non-perishable food items to Church, for distribution to the needy.  However, these food donations can be brought to Church at any time and left in the vestibule – and we do appreciate it very much.  You have always been extremely generous in this regard and it has been a blessing to those in our area who are less fortunate.

Holy Spirit Church Mission Statement:

We, the community of Holy Spirit Church, will continue the work of Christ on earth through a shared faith in God’s Word, our many Ministries, and our welcoming of all whom we encounter to be a part of us.”

FOR YOUR INFORMATION:

RELIGIOUS ED CLASSES are due to start again on Tuesday, September 9th, 2008, in the Parish Life Center classrooms, from 6 to 7 p.m. for students in Kindergarten through 8th grades.  WE ARE IN NEED OF MORE TEACHERS for these classes, and if you would like to take part in this much needed ministry, please call the church office at 394-5492.  You do not need to have any special teaching skills-- just a desire to pass on the tradition of our faith to our  young people. PLEASE NOTE: High school students can earn service hours if they will be an assistant to the teacher.

NOTE:  We continue to collect the small, used printer cartridges from your computer printers, if you would like to bring them to the Church office.  And we thank you.

Web Site

Holy Spirit Church Web site:

As you know, we print our Web site at the top of each Church bulletin every week, and it is:
www.holyspirit-no.org   We encourage you to check it out because there is a lot of useful information on it……such as:  our weekly Bulletins, our monthly calendar of events, the church history, and much more.  Also, you have access to our Church Pictorial Directory on line.  There are three things you have to enter in order to access the directory and once you click on DIRECTORY it will lead you through the process:

  1. The user ID, which is member.
  2. The password, which is  hscc2006
  3. The security code that shows up under the area below the user ID and password.

(But do not hit the enter key until you have done all three things.)

Give it a try and see how useful our Web site can be.
